About Sustainability Reporting Standards Board

The Institute of Chartered Accountants of India (ICAI), recognizing its pivotal role in the nation’s sustainable and economic development, established the “Sustainability Reporting Standards Board” (SRSB) in February 2020. The SRSB’s core mission is to formulate comprehensive, globally comparable, and easily understandable standards for measuring and disclosing non-financial information, crucial for assessing an entity’s progress towards the Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs) 2030, and ensuring stakeholders receive reliable and timely insights. The SRSB is actively engaged in several key areas to achieve its mission and integrate sustainability reporting into mainstream business practices, including developing India’s sustainability reporting framework, leading corporate adoption of these practices, and collaborating with regulatory and government agencies. A vital aspect of the SRSB’s work is to nurture the skills of Chartered Accountants in sustainability reporting and assurance through workshops, seminars, and specialized certificate courses, while also recognizing excellence in the field. To foster a greener, low-carbon economy, the Institute, through the SRSB, focuses on promoting compliance with existing accounting and sustainability-related disclosure requirements, and strengthening the assurance framework to bridge the gap between sustainability-related risks and corporate financial reporting. Furthermore, the SRSB contributes to the body of knowledge by publishing technical literature on various important topics within the sustainability domain. Through these concerted efforts, the ICAI, via its SRSB, is playing a proactive and instrumental role in advancing sustainability reporting, developing opportunities for Chartered Accountants in this evolving field, and ultimately contributing to India’s sustainable future.
